The Barcelona native driver finished sixth and seventh in his Team Oscaro by Campos Racing-run CUPRA TCR in the streets of Macau, the final round of the season. Filippi finished eleventh with another CUPRA TCR
Macau brought the curtain down on the 2018 FIA WTCR with Team Oscaro by Campos Racing and their drivers delivering strong performances in their CUPRA TCR. Pepe Oriola collected points twice in Macau and his Corsican teammate John Filippi almost making it into the top-ten as well.
After two free practice sessions, Oriola posted the tenth quickest lap time in the first qualifying session with a lap of 2m30.827s. Filippi clocked a time of 2m31.118s to line up 13th on the starting grid. Later in race 1, Oriola moved up to seventh but Filippi was forced to retire after 3 laps.
For Sunday, Oriola posted the 7th-fastest lap time in Q2 (2m30.615s), which also gave him a fourth place start in race 2. On the other hand, Filippi qualified 17th with a best lap of 2m31.374s.
Unfortunately, Oriola was forced to retire in the second race following a collision with Yann Ehrlacher while battling for podium. Filippi took the checkered flag in 11th place. In the final race, Oriola secured a sixth place finish. With this result, Oriola finally ranked 6th in the Drivers’ standings on 245 points tied with Jean-Karl Vernay (Audi) and a mere point behind Norbert Michelisz (Hyundai). Filippi couldn’t reach the finish in race 3 retiring with 3 laps to go.
