Both Campos Racing drivers stepped onto the Independents´ Trophy podium today. Valente finished 3rd in Race 1 and the Corsican racer 2nd in Race 2
Campos Racing completed another positive weekend in the World Touring Car Championship. As the qualifying session was postponed yesterday, the only Spanish team in the series made a good start in the morning as John Filippi posted the fastest time in the Independents´ Trophy with his Chevrolet RLM Cruze TC1. Filippi clocked a time of 1:50.201 in Q2. Hugo Valente with another Campos Racing-entered Chevrolet finished 3rd-fastest by setting a lap time of 1:50.604. Last but not least Valente secured pole position on reverse grid for Race 2.
At the start, Filippi was hit at the first corner after the main straight, spinning and retiring shortly after. Valente, fighting with Tiago Monteiro, finished 3rd in the Independents´ Trophy and 8th overall. In Race 2, Valente was passed at the start but managed to retake the lead but Gabriele Tarquini bumped into him and the French driver was forced to retire as his Chevrolet resulted in heavy damage. On the other hand, Filippi was 10th this time and 2nd privateerm which it his season best so far.
With two events remaining, Campos Racing lies second in the teams´ classification but reducing the points deficit to ROAL Motorsport to 15 points. Valente is fourth and Filippi seventh in the drivers´ standings.
The WTCC will have its penultimate round at the Buriram United International Circuit on November 1st.
