The first experience with the new cars set to be used in FIA Formula 3 from the 2025 season onwards proved to be highly productive for Campos Racing and its drivers. After three days of testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Nikola Tsolov, Mari Boya, and Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak performed at an impressive level on the Catalan track. In fact, one of them, Bulgarian driver Tsolov, finished as the fastest in the overall standings of the collective test.

These test sessions allowed the drivers to get to grips with a car that is both faster and more efficient than its predecessor, particularly in terms of aerodynamics, requiring different setups and even adjustments to driving styles to suit its specific characteristics.

On Wednesday, the first day of on-track action, the morning session was dedicated to installation laps and ensuring everything was functioning perfectly ahead of the afternoon run. In the later session, the first benchmark times were set, with Campos Racing drivers Boya and Tsolov both featuring in the top five. The Spaniard clocked a 1m27.966s lap to secure fourth place, just ahead of the Bulgarian, who was fifth with a 1m28.011s lap. Between them, they completed a total of 81 laps. Inthraphuvasak, meanwhile, managed 32 laps, with a best time of 1m28.734s.

Thursday saw Tsolov and Campos Racing emerge as the dominant forces of the day. In the morning, after nearly 50 laps, the Red Bull-liveried driver set a time of 1m26.618s, which remained unbeaten. Boya placed fifth with a lap of 1m27.156s, while Thai driver Inthraphuvasak finished the morning with a time of 1m27.526s. In the afternoon, with slightly slower track conditions, Tsolov once again topped the timesheets with a lap of 1m27.249s, finishing just ahead of Inthraphuvasak, who secured second place with his best lap of the week—a 1m27.448s. Boya, further confirming Campos Racing’s strong form, ended the session in sixth place with a time of 1m27.711s.

Friday was defined by rain, and with a wet track, lap times were significantly slower. However, the session allowed drivers and engineers to gain valuable mileage in such conditions. Tsolov finished sixth in the morning with a best time of 1m43.302s, while Boya and Inthraphuvasak followed with times of 1m43.923s and 1m44.191s, respectively. In the afternoon session, with slightly less water, session 5’s times were improved. Boya achieved the fourth fastest time with a lap of 1m41.569s, while Inthraphuvasak completed the top five with a best effort of 1m41.741s to his name. Tsolov, meanwhile, set a best time of 1m43.968s.

Following these three days of testing, the focus now shifts to analysing the accumulated data in preparation for the start of the championship, which will kick off for the first time in the Australian Antipodes on 15-16 March on the semi-street circuit of Melbourne.
