Melbourne, the First Chapter of a Thrilling FIA F3 Season

The first of the ten scheduled rounds in the 2025 calendar will take place at Albert Park Circuit this coming weekend. Boya, Tsolov, and Inthraphuvasak set ambitious goals on the always challenging and demanding semi-street circuit located in a park near Melbourne

The roar of the FIA Formula 3 engines will return this weekend as the championship kicks off its 2025 campaign. For this, the series travels to the Australian Antipodes, specifically to Albert Park Circuit, a track that has hosted the championship for the past two years but will serve as the curtain raiser for the first time. Campos Racing will field its three F3 cars for a young yet highly prepared trio of drivers: Spain’s Mari Boya, Bulgaria’s Nikola Tsolov, and Thailand’s Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak. Besides, the new Formula 3 car will add extra spice up throughout the season.

Boya returns to Campos Racing, while Tsolov and Inthraphuvasak are new additions to the lineup. However, both are already familiar with the Spanish team, having been part of its structure in the past. Tsolov claimed the F4 Spain title with Campos Racing in 2022, and with three FIA F3 victories last year, his goal is to establish himself as a solid title contender, especially now as a member of the Red Bull Junior Team. As mentioned earlier, Inthraphuvasak previously represented Campos Racing in Eurocup-3 two years ago, securing four podiums in the category. Boya is also expected to be a frontrunner this season, having already tasted success in 2024 with a home victory in Barcelona.

Campos Racing’s 2025 preparation has been highly promising, with both post-season and pre-season collective testing—held in Jerez and twice at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya—showcasing the team’s speed. Boya and Tsolov frequently swapped positions at the top of the timesheets, while Inthraphuvasak also made significant progress during the winter months and enters the season in excellent form.

Melbourne joined the FIA Formula 3 calendar in 2023 and has quickly become one of the most challenging stops for drivers. Its semi-street nature brings characteristics typical of such circuits, including close walls that can ruin a driver's weekend in an instant. The track requires a medium aerodynamic setup and does not suffer from excessive tire wear or degradation, even after its resurfacing three years ago.

Both free practice and qualifying will take place on Thursday night at 22:50 and early Friday morning at 4:00, respectively. The Sprint Race is scheduled for early Saturday morning at 01:15, while the Feature Race will take place on Saturday night at 22:00. All times are in Spanish time.

Adrián Campos (Team Principal of Campos Racing): “After an intense winter of hard work, both in FIA Formula 3 collective testing and at our headquarters, the time has come to bring all that effort into the 2025 season and fight for the best possible results. Both in Jerez and Barcelona, our drivers have been the fastest, which gives us great confidence in knowing we will be highly competitive at every circuit with the new F3 car. That said, this championship is incredibly tight, where just a couple of tenths can make the difference between pole position and falling outside the top ten. Melbourne, like any street circuit, places great importance on qualifying, so our first goal will be to put together strong practice sessions to approach qualifying in the best possible way.”

Mari Boya (Campos Racing driver in FIA Formula 3): “I’m really excited to start this new season with Campos Racing. This pre-season, we have worked on aspects I hadn’t given as much importance to before, and I believe they could make a big difference in approaching this new year. That’s why I feel motivated and ready for everything 2025 has in store for us.”

Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak (Campos Racing driver in FIA Formula 3): “It’s finally the first race week of the year. It will be my second time on the track so the goal is to try and maximize the experience i have from last year. Can’t wait to get on track on Friday morning.”
