Spaniards Vidales and Martí will continue alongside Goethe as American Yeany isn’t fully recovered from his fractured left wrist. The Spanish-based racing team will be expecting to achieve strong results at Spa-Francorchamps
Campos Racing will head to Belgium for the seventh round of the 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship season, which takes place at Spa-Francorchamps. The third tier of single-seater racing in the FIA Global Pathway resumes after last month’s summer break with Campos Racing entering its three-car army for Spaniards David Vidales and Pepe Martí. Danish-German Oliver Goethe will be still defending Campos Racing colors as American Hunter Yeany is still recovering from his left wrist injury, which he got fractured following a clash with another car in Spielberg.
Vidales is a solid points-paying positions finisher this season. The Spaniard scored his maiden triumph of the season at his home round in Barcelona in dominating fashion with a lights-to-flag victory. Besides, he brought points home in Bahrain, Italy and Great Britain. His fellow countryman Martí continues making further improvements in terms of performance and speed and at Spa-Francorchamps, in which the young Spanish ace made an impression on his F4 Spain debut last year, he will be expecting to translate it into points. Goethe was another nice surprise at the Hungaroring. On his first appearance in the F3-based racing series, Goethe started from pole position on Saturday’s sprint race and later finished in 8th place in difficult wet conditions.
Spa-Francorchamps is always a long-awaited moment of the season. The Belgian venue always features plenty of excitement thanks to its iconic layout with evocating names in motorsport such as Eau Rouge, Raidillon, Kemmel, La Source or Blanchimont. Spa is a very demanding circuit for tires as a result of its asphalt abrasion and lateral forces. Meanwhile, aerodynamical grip isn’t too high as the car are usually tweaked with low downforce levels. Changeable weather also plays an important role throughout the weekend and 2022 could not be an exception as forecast predicts some rain. Finally, Pirelli has selected P Zero Yellow medium compound for Belgium.
Both free practice and qualifying sessions will take place on Friday at 10.25 and 15.30 respectively. Saturday’s Sprint race is scheduled at 10.35 with Sunday’s Feature race taking place at 08.50. All times are CET.
Adrián Campos (Campos Racing Team Principal): “Unfortunately, Hunter (Yeany) isn’t still fully recovered for this race, but I hope he will be able to make his comeback soon. So, Oliver (Goethe) is driving for us once again. We strongly think that Oliver will be able to make further improvements in comparison with Hungaroring as he knows the FIA F3 car better. Regarding David (Vidales) and Pepe (Martí), our goal is to convert potential into results. Let’s see if David can fight for podium and Pepe for his first points of the season. Besides, they both have previous racing experience at Spa-Francorchamps, unlike other previous rounds in which they never had raced before.”
David Vidales (Campos Racing driver of FIA Formula 3): “Spa race week! It´s one of my favorites tracks of the year. I can't wait to jump in the car after the summer break. Let's have a good one!”
Pepe Martí (Campos Racing driver of FIA Formula 3): “I can’t wait for this weekend, I am very much looking forward to getting started. Spa is an old school track and I really enjoyed it last year. With all the steps forward we’ve made so far this season I’m confident we can do well!”
Oliver Goethe (Campos Racing driver of FIA Formula 3): “I’m very excited to do another race in F3 with Campos Racing! The last race in Hungary went very well and there was a lot of promise to get some good results so hopefully I can maximize that and most importantly gain experience and improve as much as possible!”
