The Spanish-based team carried out a three-day collective test in Cheste with Spaniards Martí and Vidales, who were joined by Yeany and Ushijima throughout the week. They all delivered brilliant performances with Ushijima taking the second spot on the final day
The Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo has hosted three days of FIA Formula 3 Championship testing with Campos Racing fielding on track their three Dallara F3 cars for four young aces. Campos Racing, whose DNA is always committed to give opportunities to talented youngsters, made no exception this time and Pepe Martí, David Vidales, Hunter Yeany and Reece Ushijima drove their cars in Valencia. The extraordinarily young driver line-up performed excellently considering they were newcomers in the Formula 3-based racing series.
Martí and Vidales, probably the main emerging starts on the Spanish motorsport scene, got their first taste of Formula 3 machinery on Monday. Martí, the youngest driver in the field and of the two single racers stepping up from Formula 4, clocked a best time of 1m23.652s in the afternoon, the same season in which Vidales also scored his personal best, a lap of 1m23.485s after improving his best tour in the morning. American Yeany posted a lap of 1m24.025s at the end of the day.
On Tuesday, Vidales continued making solid progress and finished eight in the timesheets in the morning session with a lap time of 1m21.723s. Vidales again made it into the top ten in the afternoon by finishing ninth. Similarly, Martí also made further improvements and clocked a lap time of 1m22.206s. Slightly further adrift, Yeany ended the day with a lap time of 1m22.715s to his name.
On the final day, Japanese-American Ushijima joined Campos Racing and immediately made an impression. After a 11th place in the morning lapping under the 1:22 barrier, Ushijima finished second-fastest in the afternoon with a lap time of 1m22.545s, meanwhile Yeany achieved his best result of the week by finishing seventh in the charts. Martí scored a lap of 1m22.281s on the final day of testing.
Campos Racing will now continue working towards the 2022 season.
