The all-new driver line-up proved to be an excellent package alongside their Campos Racing-run cars
Campos Racing and Red Bull juniors Isack Hadjar and Pepe Martí carried out a successful FIA Formula 2 post-season testing at Yas Marina Circuit. Both drivers completed a large testing programme during three days in preparation of the upcoming 2024 season. Hadjar was always fast in all kind of circumstances and Martí made a sensational first outing in the F2 machinery.
On Wednesday, Hadjar stopped the clock in a time of 1m37.263s in the morning session to take 8th in the timesheets. Martí’s best lap consisted of a lap time of 1m38.068s. As track conditions slightly improved in the afternoon, most drivers also managed to lower their best times in the second session. It was the case of Hadjar and Martí who posted times of 1m36.876s and 1m37.463s respectively.
Day two saw as Hadjar and Martí found further pace in their cars. In the morning, Martí was an impressive 4th-fastest with his time of 1m35.984s after putting a mammoth 52 laps under his belt. Besides, the Spaniard ended as the best rookie of the day. Hadjar clocked a lap time of 1m36.100s. In the afternoon, Campos Racing worked on long stint simulations with Hadjar posting a time of 1m39.414s and Martí putting together a lap of 1m39.730s.
Hadjar secured the top spot for Campos Racing on the final day of testing. The Frenchman was the single driver in the morning to break the 1m36s barrier with his time of 1m35.958s. Martí posted a lap time of 1m36.964s in the first session. In the afternoon, which was devoted to race simulations, Hadjar clocked a lap time of 1m38.791s and Martí posted a time of 1m39.178s. Both Campos Racing-run Dallara cars completed 135 laps in total in this session.
Campos Racing will continue working with the gathered data ahead of receiving their first F2 2024 car later this month. Track testing will kick off in January with a shakedown scheduled in the first weeks of the new year.
