The French driver, who took the championship lead at Silverstone, will aim to extend his advantage in the standings. This will also be the goal for Campos Racing in the team standings with Hadjar and Martí, the latter having scored points in the last three rounds of the calendar
Campos Racing is already in Mogyoród, the town where the Hungaroring circuit is located, to compete in the ninth of the fourteen scheduled events this season in FIA Formula 2. This event will be especially significant as the Alzira-based team arrives in Hungary leading both championship standings, for drivers and teams. Isack Hadjar and Pepe Martí, who have proven to be the strongest duo on the grid, will once again take the wheel of the Red Bull-liveried Dallara F2 2024 cars.
As mentioned, in the drivers' standings, it is the Frenchman Hadjar who leads the championship after the races at Silverstone. Two weeks ago, Hadjar claimed his third victory of the year, following earlier wins in Melbourne and Imola. This, combined with a second place in Monaco, a third in Spielberg, and points in five other occasions, gives him the lead with 133 points, sixteen points ahead of his rival Paul Aron. With six races remaining in the season, the brave French driver will aim to further extend and consolidate his lead in the standings to face future challenges with the best possible guarantees.
In the team standings, Campos Racing also leads with 171 points, thirteen more than MP Motorsport. Martí's role in his first season in FIA Formula 2 has been pivotal. The Barcelona native debuted with a double podium, finishing second and third, at the season opener in Bahrain. Subsequently, Martí equaled his best result to date with another second-place finish at the Red Bull Ring. After scoring points in the last three races, the Spaniard is another key contender for ambitious objectives at Hungaroring.
Hungaroring was built in 1985 and debuted on the calendar as an F1 Grand Prix the following year, being the first top-tier race behind the "Iron Curtain". With its 4,381 meters in length and fourteen corners, it is a tough test for drivers, cars, and tires. Featuring a plethora of linked corners, it offers no respite. Furthermore, the high temperatures typically experienced at the circuit this time of year do not help. Traditionally, tire wear and degradation are quite high here. Additionally, given the difficulty in overtaking, grid position and race strategy are crucial at this track, often referred to as the "Monaco without walls".
Both the free practice sessions and the qualifying session will take place on Friday at 11:05 and 16:00 respectively. On Saturday, the sprint race will begin at 14:15, while the main race, with a mandatory pit stop for tire changes, will take place at 10:05. All times are in the Spanish time zone.
Adrián Campos (Team Principal of Campos Racing): "We arrive at Hungaroring in an ideal situation, leading both the drivers' and teams' standings. This is a clear reflection of the extraordinary year we are having. The best part is that we have shown competitiveness on every single circuit so far, which gives us additional confidence before each event. We will try to bring home the biggest points haul we can and, if possible, extend our leads in the standings."
Isack Hadjar (Campos Racing driver in FIA Formula 2): "The Hungaroring is one of my favorite layouts and I feel confident we will deliver again. Qualifying will be key around this track with limited opportunity to overtake. Aiming for another win!"
Pepe Martí (Campos Racing driver in FIA Formula 2): "The Hungaroring is a very cool and tricky track. A lot of connected mid speed corners and one of the places where qualifying is key, looking for a good weekend!"
