Boschung and Maini will contest the final round of the 2023 FIA Formula 2 Championship season in Abu Dhabi in their Campos Racing-run Dallara machinery with more points in prospect
Campos Racing will head to Abu Dhabi for the 13th and final round counting towards the 2023 FIA Formula 2 Championship season. The feeder series will bring the curtain down on the season in the frame of the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit. The Valencia-based racing team will enter their two Dallara F2 cars for full-season drivers Ralph Boschung and Kush Maini, who are eager to resume track action following an almost three-month hiatus since the last race at Monza.
Both Boschung and Maini will arrive in good spirits this weekend with their sights focused on adding more points to their tally. Maini made a strong debut to the season in Bahrain as the Indian pilot finished seventh and fourth there. Maini scored points once again in Jeddah before scoring his maiden podium in Formula 2 a few weeks later in Melbourne. The Alpine F1 junior member continued his streak of points finishes in Azerbaijan, Monaco, Hungary, Belgium and Italy. Boschung also made it into the points on the ultra-fast circuit of Monza as the Swiss racer finished ninth during that weekend’s feature race. Previously, Boschung claimed his first F2 win in Sakhir, where he also finished second in the main race. Boschung granted points in two out of three last race weekends, which will provide extra morale ahead of the season finale.
The Yas Marina Circuit is located on the eponymous island and features a layout of 5.281km, which suffered several modifications in 2021. Turns 4, 5 and 6 were replaced by a single hairpin with turns 11 through 14 replaced by a sweeping banked bend. Besides, turns 18 through 20 were made less tight to increase speed in the final part of the circuit. All this brough a higher tire degradation compared to previous years. Besides, the tire experiencing the highest wear tire is the front right due to the anti-clockwise layout.
Both free practice and qualifying sessions will take place on Friday at 08:05 and 12:00 respectively. Saturday’s Sprint race is scheduled at 13:20 with Sunday’s Feature race taking place at 10:15. All times are CET.
Adrián Campos (Campos Racing Team Principal): “We are super motivated for the last event of the 2023 FIA Formula 2 Championship season. After such a long hiatus it looks like ages since our last F2 race, but we managed to score points with our two drivers at Monza and our goal is to repeat in Abu Dhabi. Everybody perfectly knows Yas Marina as there are plenty of collective testing scheduled there, so racing will be even tighter in comparison to other circuits. Hopefully we will able to convert out potential into points to wrap up the season in style.”
Ralph Boschung (Campos Racing Driver of FIA Formula 2): “It’s going to be a very emotional last weekend of the season. I hope to enjoy as much as possible this event. Usually, Abu Dhabi is a good track for us. I really love Campos Racing as it’s a family to me after three years together. We will try our best to wrap up the year.”
Kush Maini (Campos Racing Driver of FIA Formula 2): “Last race of the season for the team and I, it’s been a campaign of many ups and downs for us but we’ve shown great pace at times and we will be working hard this weekend to end the season on a high.
