The American driver, who carries the Haas F1 colors on her Tatuus car managed by Campos Racing, dominated the Sunday race with a lights-to-flag win after finishing third the previous day. Spanish driver Martí finished second in Saturday's race and with a fourth place on Sunday also secured an important haul of key points for the driver and team standings
An almost perfect weekend of F1 Academy at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for Campos Racing, thanks to the performances of American Chloe Chambers and Spaniard Nerea Martí. Chambers, who represents Haas F1, claimed her first victory in the category by leading the second race in Barcelona from start to finish. It should be noted that Chambers had already joined Martí on the podium the previous day, as the Valencian finished second just ahead of the American. Carrie Schreiner, the German member of the Sauber Academy, was less fortunate and did not finish in the points this time.
After free practice sessions early on Friday morning, the qualifying session took place late in the afternoon, and the Campos Racing drivers performed excellently. At the end of the session, Chambers was the second fastest with a time of 1m41.455s, just half a tenth behind pole-sitter Abbi Pulling. Martí was third with a time of 1m41.529s. The second-fastest laps, which would determine the starting grid for the second race, saw Chambers second with a time of 1m41.620s, less than a tenth behind Pulling, while Martí was fourth with a lap of 1m41.922s. Schreiner would be 14th and 12th in each of the races.
On Saturday, when the lights went out for the first 16-lap race, Martí got a slightly better start than Chambers, allowing the Spaniard to move into second with her Tommy Hilfiger-sponsored car. The safety car came out after that first lap due to two cars being out of the race, and the race restarted on lap 7. It was a race where the pack gradually stretched out, and Martí ultimately crossed the finish line in second place ahead of Chambers. Schreiner finished in twelfth position.
On Sunday, despite the looming threat of rain, the race was held in dry conditions. When the lights went out, Chambers and Martí made lightning starts. The American overtook Pulling, while Martí did the same with Doriane Pin, completing the first lap in first and third positions. From that moment, Chambers set an unmatchable pace, gradually pulling away with fastest laps and opening a gap of more than seven seconds over Pulling. Martí held off her pursuers, although she couldn't prevent Hamda Al Qubaisi from passing her on lap 12. After 16 laps, Chambers crossed the finish line as the winner, securing her first F1 Academy victory. Martí finished fourth. Schreiner, on this occasion, finished eleventh, just outside the points.
After the first three rounds of the season, with four remaining, Chambers is tied in the driver standings with 81 points, the same as Pin, who is second. Martí is in fourth place with 63 points, while Schreiner is 13th with 9 points. In the team standings, Campos Racing rises to second place with 152 points.
The next round, after the summer break, will take place on August 24 and 25 at the Dutch Zandvoort Circuit.
