The Second Half of the Season Kicks Off at Assen’s “Cathedral of Speed”

Rivera will defend his lead in the standings at the wheel of his Campos Racing-entered Tatuus, while teammates Caranta and Tarnvanichkul—also driving Red Bull-liveried cars—will aim to be key contenders as well. Meanwhile, the Griffin Core by Campos trio of Sztuka, Carrasquedo Jr., and Macedo are also determined to go all-in on Dutch soil

In the heart of August, with scorching heat sweeping across Europe, the 2025 Eurocup-3 season resumes this weekend with the fifth round, set to take place at the TT Circuit Assen near the Dutch town of the same name. Two new races await on a track that will be a leap into the unknown for the vast majority of the field, as Assen is traditionally associated with motorcycle racing more than with cars.

After ten races—four held at Red Bull Ring and Monza, and six more (three each) in Algarve and Paul Ricard—Rivera tops the overall standings with 136 points. The young Mexican driver, part of the Red Bull Junior Team, is enjoying a dream debut in this continental championship. He claimed his first Eurocup-3 win in Portimão and followed it up with another at Monza. In addition, he has secured one second-place finish and two third places, and has scored points in all but one race. A flawless start for a driver who is, unsurprisingly, also the highest-ranked rookie.

His Campos Racing teammates Jules Caranta and Enzo Tarnvanichkul are likewise targeting podium finishes to start this second half of the season on a high note. Caranta has a second and a third-place finish to his name, while Tarnvanichkul claimed his first podium last month in Monza—a well-deserved reward for the clear upward trajectory the Thai driver has been showing. Caranta currently sits eighth in the standings with 61 points, with Tarnvanichkul just behind in ninth on 44.

The Griffin Core by Campos squad is not far behind. Among them, Poland’s Kacper Sztuka is the best-ranked driver at the halfway point of the season. Sztuka took a commanding win in his first race at Le Castellet and had already claimed four podium finishes prior to that. It’s no surprise that he sits fourth overall with 106 points, despite a challenging and unlucky weekend at Monza.

Right behind him is Jesse Carrasquedo in fifth place with 70 points. The Mexican driver has become known for his impressive fightbacks through the field, consistently working his way into the front-running positions. He already savored success in Algarve and will likely feel at home at a demanding, technical track like Assen. Francisco Macedo is another key component of the Griffin Core by Campos structure. The Portuguese driver, whose best result so far is a second place in Le Castellet, will be aiming to bounce back from a less fruitful Monza round, where he finished no higher than eighth.

In the teams’ standings, Campos Racing holds second place with 219 points, while Griffin Core by Campos is third with 187.

As previously mentioned, the Assen Circuit is known as the “Cathedral of Motorcycling” due to its deep-rooted connection with two-wheeled racing. The current track was built in 1955, continuing the legacy of a more than 16-kilometer layout that dated back to 1926. As such, the modern Assen circuit is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. The current “Grand Prix” configuration features 4,555 meters and no fewer than 18 corners—many of them in quick succession—leaving little room for rest. It is, therefore, a highly technical and driver-focused track. Even so, several car racing series such as DTM, ADAC GT Masters, and even Champ Car World Series have held events at Assen in the past.

The drivers will take to the track for free practice on Friday at 14:11, with the first qualifying session set for Saturday at 08:28. Race 1, lasting 30 minutes plus one lap, is scheduled for 11:43 the same day. Sunday will begin with Q2 at 08:31, followed by the second and final race of the weekend—also 30 minutes plus one lap—at 11:10. Both races will be streamed live on the Eurocup-3 YouTube channel.

Adrián Campos (Team Principal, Campos Racing): “We head to Assen highly motivated to keep up the strong run of results we’ve enjoyed so far in 2025. Our goal is to repeat the double championship success we achieved in the last two seasons. Assen is, in some ways, a step into the unknown since it's not a track regularly visited by car racing championships. However, we have very talented drivers, as they've proven throughout the season, and our cars have been competitive at every circuit we've raced on. We’re confident we can leave Assen with as many points as possible as the championship now enters its decisive phase.”
