Extensive pre-season testing for Campos Racing despite inclement weather with rain and wind made things much more complicated for drivers
Campos Racing completed three positive days of testing carried out by main F1-feeder series, the FIA Formula 2, at Bahrain International Circuit. The Bahraini track will play host to curtain raiser in two weeks’ time as the FIA Formula 2 will kick off the 2017 season on 15-16 April
The young driver pairing of Campos Racing, Switzerland’s Raplh Boschung and South Africa’s Raoul Hyman, completed 346 laps at Bahrain with three full days of putting mileage under their belt. They made impressive progress with their engineers and tried many setup changes to prepare series’ season opener. The drivers faced changeable, demanding weather conditions, including rain and wind.
Despite they were making their first outing with a Formula 2 car in Sakhir, Boschung set 4th-fastest time on day one with a lap of 1:43.033 with his teammate Hyman ranking 8th by scoring a 1:44.050. On Thursday, track conditions improved despite early morning rain, Boschung managed to beat his previous personal best lap by clocking a time of 1:41.984. On the other hand, Hyman posted a lap of 1:42.598. More improvements were still to come today, as Boschung and Hyman finally scored two laps of 1:41.602 and 1:42.359 respectively.
