Oriola finished fourth in his CUPRA TCR and achieved another double-points finish. Filippi went back into the top-ten points
Team Oscaro by Campos Racing endured another challenging weekend of the FIA WTCR at Zandvoort. The former home of the Dutch Grand Prix saw a competitive performance by the Spain-based team and its duo of Pepe Oriola and John Filippi at the wheel of two CUPRA TCR cars.
After two productive free practice sessions, Oriola and Filippi headed into the Q1 confident of a strong result. Unfortunately, they couldn’t put together a perfect lap due to traffic and Oriola qualified 17th with a time of 1m45.102s ahead of his teammate Filippi, the latter clocking a time of 1m45.128s. Filippi gained some places in race 1 to finish 15th and Oriola’s race came to an early end after ten laps.
On Monday, Oriola found better qualifying speed to set a lap of 1m44.642s, 8th-fastest lap time and 3rd on the reversed grid. Filippi’s performance was good enough to fill 11th spot on the grid. Oriola ran in podium contention until the end when James Thompson passed him for third with a few laps to go. Oriola finished fourth and Filippi scored another top-ten finish. The final race brought another positive result for Oriola as the Barcelona native finished tenth. Filippi took the checkered flag in 14th place.
The FIA WTCR now takes a four-week hiatus before the WTCR Race of Portugal in Vila Real on 23-24 June.
