Team Oscaro by Campos Racing and Pepe Oriola secured another podium at Round 3 of the FIA WTCR, which was held at Nürburgring this weekend. The Team Oscaro by Campos Racing-run CUPRA TCR cars excelled in Germany and were back in rostrum contention.

On Thursday, Oriola and John Filippi posted the 5th and 8th fastest times in free practice with their laps of 9m34.444s and 10m02.710s respectively. Later in qualifying, Oriola spearheaded the Campos Racing charge to start from row seven with a lap of 9m04.103s. On the other hand, Filippi lined up on row 12 with a lap of 9m10.726s. Thursday’s race got underway in the afternoon and Oriola managed to move through the field to bring 8th place home. Corsican Filippi also gained several places to finish 16th.

In the second qualifying session, which took place on Friday, Oriola set the 10th quickest lap time (8m59.630s) to secure pole position for race 2. Filippi took 17th spot on the starting grid with a time of 9m01.934s.

Despite Oriola lost the lead in race 2 when Esteban Guerrieri got past him, the Barcelona native still fended off Fréderic Vervisch and Yvan Muller to take the checkered flag in a season’s best second place finish. Filippi was forced to pit after a clash with Tom Coronel. In the final race, Oriola delivered another recovery drive to finish 6th after three laps. Filippi couldn’t score a positive result as his CUPRA TCR sustained some damage in the previous race and the car was still struggling to run smoothly.

Oriola sits 9th in the Drivers’ Championship on 50 points. Team Oscaro by Campos Racing lies 6th in the Teams’ Standings on 56 points.

Round 4 will take place at Zandvoort (Holland) in two weeks’ time.
