Goethe, Boya, and Montoya aim for the podium in the penultimate race of the season, coinciding with the summer break. The trio of young talents from Campos Racing will be among the wide array of contenders for victory in a year filled with great emotions and narrow margins
Campos Racing will aim to "make a mark in Flanders" at the ninth, and penultimate, round of the FIA Formula 3 season, held at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit. Oliver Goethe, Mari Boya, and Sebastián Montoya will get back behind the wheel of their Campos Racing Dallara F3 machinery to finish the key part of the season on a high note. The always challenging Belgian track, winding through the wooded mountains of the Ardennes, will be another tough test if, as expected, rain makes an appearance at some point over the weekend.
So far, German-Danish “Ollie” Goethe is the best-placed Campos Racing driver in the standings. The driver bearing Red Bull colors on his car is seventh in the standings with 89 points, thanks to a win and a second place in Imola, a third place in Barcelona, and finishing in the points in eleven of the other thirteen races. Another of the Alzira-based team's drivers who has already stood on the top step of the podium this season is the Spaniard Boya. Boya, the local hero, won the sprint race in Montmeló. The driver from the Aran Valley, who had scored points on six other occasions, got back into the points in Hungary. Lastly, Colombian Montoya is always a man to watch, especially on a track that favors the bold like Spa. Montoya will look to improve on his sixth-place finish in Melbourne, his best result so far.
In the team standings, Campos Racing is in fourth place with 146 points.
The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, as it is officially known, needs no introduction. Many of the most beautiful pages in motorsport history have been written on its asphalt. From a driving perspective, it is a very technical circuit where mistakes are costly. The asphalt is not particularly abrasive, but the lateral loads on the tires can lead to a significant drop in terms of performance towards the end of the race. Additionally, its length of over seven kilometers and changing weather conditions can mean rain on one part of the circuit while the sun shines on another. Quite the challenge.
Both free practice and qualifying will take place on Friday at 09:55 and 15:05 respectively. The Sprint race will be held on Saturday at 09:50, while the Feature race on Sunday is scheduled for 08:30. All times are in Spanish time zone.
Adrián Campos (Team Principal of Campos Racing): "We are motivated to do well in Belgium. It's a circuit that always poses a challenge for everyone, drivers and teams alike. We know we have a competitive car and three very talented drivers. If we can get a good qualifying session, without bad luck with red flags and such, I am confident we will be in the top positions in the races. There are only four races left, the two at Spa-Francorchamps and the two at Monza after the summer, and it’s time to give it our all."
