The entire FIA Formula 2 paddock is gearing up for the second round of the current campaign, taking place this coming weekend. With a delay compared to the original schedule—following the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia rounds due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East—Campos Racing will defend its championship leads in Miami.

Nikola Tsolov, who heads the drivers’ standings after the season opener in Australia, and Noel León, who already tasted podium success on his debut in March, have handed the Spanish squad an early lead in the teams’ standings. However, the challenge ahead will be as tough as it gets, particularly given that none of the drivers have prior on-track experience at either Miami or the upcoming Montreal circuit (May 23–24).

Campos Racing’s excellent winter preparation, together with its driver pairing, was clearly demonstrated at the beginning of last month in Melbourne. León delivered a superb second-place finish in Saturday’s Sprint Race, showcasing remarkable composure and ambition to claim a podium result in only his first weekend. Sunday belonged to Tsolov: the “Bulgarian Lion” maximized every opportunity and, with flawless race management alongside Campos Racing, secured his maiden FIA Formula 2 victory in the Feature Race on Australian soil.

After the opening two races, Tsolov leads the standings with 25 points, while León sits eighth with eight points to his name. Campos Racing, as previously noted, also tops the teams’ championship with 33 points.

Both races will take place during the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix weekend. The Florida city joined the pinnacle of motorsport’s calendar in 2022 with the purpose-built Miami International Autodrome. However, this event will mark FIA Formula 2’s debut in the United States. The circuit runs around the Hard Rock Stadium complex, giving it a unique character. It measures 5.412 kilometers and features 19 corners, running in an anti-clockwise direction. The track is laid out on private roads surrounding the stadium and is used exclusively for the Grand Prix, meaning grip levels typically evolve significantly over the course of the weekend. With temperatures expected to approach—or even exceed—the 30°C mark, tyre degradation management is likely to be one of the key factors. Drivers, who have been preparing in the simulator in recent weeks, will need to make the most of every session to arrive at qualifying in the best possible shape.

Free practice will get underway on Friday at 15:30, followed by qualifying later that day at 20:30. The Sprint Race is scheduled for Saturday at 16:00, while Sunday’s Feature Race will start at 18:30. All times are in Spanish local time.

Adrián Campos (Team Principal of Campos Racing): “We are very pleased to have the opportunity to compete in Miami, a completely new venue. It will be an extremely challenging weekend for everyone, especially as this circuit is making its debut on the championship calendar. We have worked with our drivers and engineers on the simulator to establish a solid baseline ahead of Friday’s on-track action. Free practice will be even more important to fine-tune the final setup details before qualifying. We arrive leading both championships, and our objective is to strengthen those positions even further. Nikola and Noel proved to be very strong in Melbourne, and we will aim to extend that momentum in Miami. Although the circuits are different, both share close proximity of the walls to the track, meaning that any mistake can compromise the entire weekend.”
