Campos Racing, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2018, and the new strategic partner Vexatec AG, a Swiss high technology sportswear company, are ready to face new challenges in the FIA Formula 2 with innovative Dallara F2 2018. The cooperation is based on the shared values of innovation, precision and emotion
Adrián Campos says: “I am very happy to create with Salvatore Gandolfo and Vexatec this brand-new project. This is only the start of something great and I desire to have our new partners with us for many years. With Vexatec, we make a big step to follow our trajectory and to grow for new goals.”
2018 marks a new beginning for Campos Vexatec Racing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship. Campos Racing, celebrating its 20th anniversary, and Vexatec AG, the Swiss developer of the world’s first agility shirt, will further strengthen team’s bid in the main feeder series to Formula 1 working together. Italian Luca Ghiotto was also announced to drive one of the Campos Vexatec Racing-entered cars in the series. Proof of the successes achieved in the team’s history is Antonio García, the team’s first official driver, champion of Campos Racing and one of the most successful Spanish drivers in the world. The Vexatec expert and former German national football player Torsten Frings, who conducted the tests in football, was also among the guests.
It is a new season with notable changes. First, a brand new Dallara-built car with which everybody will be pretty much starting out from scratch. The chassis is 159 mm longer and 32 kg heavier than its predecessor. The new car is powered by a 3.4 L V6 turbocharged and developed by Mecachrome and they all will use mandatory “halo” cockpit device – just like the F1 cars. A new (ECU) electronic motor control system was developed by Magnetti Marelli and Pirelli wants to use the 2016 F1 season tyres. Second, a calendar expanded to twelve rounds always featuring as part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix support programme. All this promises more racing action and power.
Campos Vexatec Racing will officially make their track debut with new Dallara F2 2018 cars at Le Castellet with a three-day collective testing on March 6-7-8 and then heading to Sakhir two weeks later for a second dress rehearsal ahead of the season start in April. The season will heat up visiting circuits such as Sakhir (6-8 April), Baku (27-29 April), Barcelona (11-13 May), Monte Carlo (24-26 May), Le Castellet (22-24 June), Spielberg (29 June-1 July), Silverstone (6-8 July), Budapest (27-29 July), SpaFrancorchamps (24-26 August), Monza (31 August-2 September) and Sochi (28-30 September).
“In 2018, the new Formula 1 junior series will receive a new racing car, be extended to twelve races and promises a technical approach to the royal class. Innovation is the key to success”, explains Vexatec founder and motorsport expert Salvatore Gandolfo. “Campos Vexatec Racing is the perfect platform for high-tech testing. I look forward to a good cooperation.”
Campos Vexatec Racing will be fighting to achieve best results and to be again identify as one of the best team in the renamed FIA F2.
