Campos Racing and its duo of Ralph Boschung and Roberto Merhi continued to put in a good performance in the FIA Formula 2 Championship’s round two at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Despite facing adversity, Campos Racing and its drivers were competitive throughout the weekend.

On Friday’s practice session, Boschung posted a best lap of 1:31.355 and Merhi set a 1:31.444 finishing very close to the top of the times. Later in qualifying, Boschung qualified 12th with his lap of 1:30.065 and Merhi took 15th spot on the starting grid with his 1:32.389.

For Saturday’s feature race Boschung moved up to 11th at the start and also Merhi was also moving through the field before his mandatory pit stop on lap nine. Just a few moments later, and when the virtual safety car was deployed, Boschung also pitted and rejoined tenth. Boschung ran in the top-ten and finally took the chequered flag in tenth place. Unfortunately he was given a post-race penalty and dropped 12th. Merhi was hit by another driver and made a second pit stop to retire a few laps later.

In race 2, Boschung stalled at the start and dropped to last place. At the same time, Merhi climbed up to 12th. Boschung set an impressive pace to hunt down the drivers in front and still turned today’s fastest lap time. After 26 laps, Merhi came in 12th place and Boschung ended up 17th.

FIA Formula 2’s round three will take place at Monte Carlo in two weeks’ time.
