Vivacqua took third place finish on Sunday. Iorio, Florescu and Laaksonen also continued the positive momentum

Campos Racing finished the second venue of the Euroformula F3 Open with another trip to the podium and the duo of Brazilian drivers, Thiago Vivacqua and Matheus Iorio, Romanian Petru Florescu and Finn Simo Laaksonen played a key role throughout the weekend at legendary Spa-Francorchamps and rain, as almost ever, made things difficult.

On Friday, the four drivers finished in the top-ten after three practice sessions with their lap times absolutely close. Florescu spearheaded the Campos Racing charge as he clocked a time of 2:16.034 but his teammates were less than tenth behind.

On Saturday, in Q1, Iorio and Vivacqua took 5th and 6th spot on the starting grid and Laaksonen was 11th-fastest and, on the other hand, Florescu set 13th-quickest lap time. Saturday’s race took place in warmer temperatures than usual, and Vivacqua took fifth at the flag. Laaksonen came seventh and classified fourth in rookies’ classification. Florescu also secured another points-paying finish with his 9th place. Iorio ran in the top five but spun out on lap six.

On Sunday, a rain-marred qualifying session resulted to be even more challenging for the drivers as it was a bit of a lottery for everybody. Iorio lined up fourth and Vivacqua took 7th spot. Florescu set 13th-fastest lap time and Laaksonen started three places behind. Later, race 2 took place in dry conditions. Vivacqua put in a remarkable recovery drive to finish third on the rostrum. His fellow countryman came in fifth place. Then, Florescu took 8th and 4th in the rookie’s classification. Laaksonen was forced to retire as went off track.

Round 3 will take place on 10-11 June at Paul Ricard.
