Swiss driver claimed 7th-place finish in Saturday’s race in Spielberg. Visoiu took 11th in the opening race of the weekend
Campos Racing and its two drivers in the FIA Formula 2, Swiss Ralph Boschung and Romanian Robert Visoiu, delivered strong performances at the Red Bull Ring and the young pairing achieved season-high results on Saturday.
In the free practice session, Boschung posted 9th-fastest time with a lap of 1:15.029 after completing twenty laps. His teammate clocked a time of 1:15.554. In the afternoon, Boschung qualified 10th on the starting grid for race 1 with a lap of 1:14.363. Visoiu, who was less than half a second further adrift (1:14.653), lined up 17th on the starting grid.
On Saturday, Visoiu made an excellent start and gained several places on the first lap moving up to 11th. On the other hand, Boschung dropped to 15th. Visoiu made his mandatory pit stop on lap seven and his teammate come into pit lane on lap eight. From then on, Boschung set a solid pace after his tire change. He managed to move through the field and took 7th at the end of the race. Visoiu edged into points contention but dropped to 11th in the dying moments.
On Sunday, Boschung was looking forward to race 2 as he secured a front row start on the reverse grid. But he stalled when the light went out. Despite Raffaele Marciello hit Boschung’s car, the latter was able to continue but finally retired after 16 laps. Visoiu made it into the top ten once again but he was also forced to retire following a clash with Nyck de Vries, bringing an early end to his race.
The FIA Formula 2 Championship will head at Silverstone circuit next weekend.
