A heart-stopping finish when the Frenchman of Campos Racing has managed to first third the second World Touring Car Championship race in Macau. Corsica´s John Filippi claimed second twice in TC2.
Campos Racing has finished on the Macanese rostrum both in TC1 and TC2 classes, as Hugo Valente took third place with his Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1 and John Filippi stepped onto the TC2 podium twice driving his SEAT León WTCC. They were rewarding results taking into account Campos Racing had to withdraw Pepe Oriola from the event as a result of his crash in qualifying and the Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1 could not be repaired.
In Race 1, with Valente starting 10th on the starting grid, Campos Racing driver was running 9th until he retired on lap six. The team made some set-up changes and it proved to be a right decision later. In the second race, Tiago Monteiro passed Valente at the start, and the Frenchman trying an overtaking maneuver at Lisboa but going wide and dropping to fifth. When the safety car was deployed with two laps to go, at the restart, Valente takes advantage and overtakes Norbert Michelisz for fourth and, on the very last lap, he also passes Monteiro to finish third – his third podium finish over the season- behind Rob Huff and Yvan Muller, two World Touring Car champions and driving factory cars entered by LADA and Citroën respectively.
In TC2 Filippi finished second twice behind Franz Engstler and Henry Kwong, one of the two Asian drivers at Campos Racing – the second was William Lok, who retired-, brought home a fifth place in the second race.
