France´s driver was determined to end season on a high and achieved his goal by finishing 3rd in race one. Filippi was leading in race two but he was hit by Muller. Positive debut for Al-Attiyah in the WTCC
The 2015 WTCC season came to an end in style for Campos Racing as the Alzira-based team delivered a strong performance at season finale taking place at Losail. The Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1 driven by Hugo Valente secured another podium during race 1, with John Filippi and Nasser Al-Attiyah also performing extremely well both days in Qatar.
Valente was already eying a good result after free practice session as he was the closest rival to factory-entered Citroën cars on Thursday. Qualifying session, which was held on Friday, continued in the same vein. Valente made it into Q3 and finished 4th fastest. Filippi, with his 10th place, secured pole position for race 2. Finally, Al-Attiyah finished 9th on his debut in the series.
The first night race ever in the WTCC witnessed how Valente moved up to third on lap two by passing former WRC star Sébastien Loeb. After 12 laps, Valente crossed the finish line third – and second privateer- behind two Citroën driven by José María López and Mehdi Bennani and ahead of three other C-Elysée cars, Loeb, Ma Quing Hua and Yvan Muller. Filippi came 6th among the Independents´ Trophy and Al-Attiyah 7th, the latter beating experienced drivers such as Stefano D´Aste and Grégoire Demoustier.
In race 2, Filippi had a closely-fought battle with Muller. Yvan took the lead but shortly after Campos Racing driver move up to first again. Then, at T1, Filippi was hit by the former World Champion and spun. Another 12-lap race saw Valente taking the checkered flag 6th and third in the Independents´ Trophy with Al-Attiyah and Filippi 7th and 8th respectively.
