Spaniard Oriola won the first race at Slovakia Ring and came fourth and ninth in race 2 and race 3 respectively. Filippi delivered another strong performance with another Team Oscaro by Campos Racing-run CUPRA TCR to finish 6th
Team Oscaro by Campos Racing secured a milestone first win in the FIA WTCR for a CUPRA TCR car yesterday. Besides, Corsican John Filippi also achieved a best season result of sixth at Slovakia Racing.
In qualifying, Oriola posted a lap time of 2m10.475s in his CUPRA TCR to line up third on the starting grid for the first race of the weekend behind Gabriele Tarquini and Aurélien Comte. Filippi spun out and was forced to start from the back of the grid. When the lights went out, Oriola moved up into second as Tarquini made a bad start and moved past Comte for the lead shortly after. Despite a safety car period, the Barcelona native pulled away once again getting the fastest lap to take the checkered flag in first place. Filippi overtook eight cars to finish 18th.
In second qualifying, both CUPRA TCR drivers of Team Oscaro by Campos Racing completed a brilliant session with Filippi fourth-fastest – the Corsican driver made it into Q3- with Oriola right behind in fifth place. Oriola gained two places to take fourth in race 2 with Filippi crossing the finish line in sixth place. Filippi was caught in a pile up at the start of race 3, in which Tarquini and Esteban Guerrieri also got involved, and Oriola ended up ninth.
The FIA WTCR will resume at Ningbo (China) after a long summer break on 29-30 September.
