Mahindra Racing Formula E Team, whose M3ELECTRO cars are run in collaboration with Campos Racing, scored another double podium finish with 2nd and 3rd places
Mahindra Racing Formula E Team and its duo of Felix Rosenqvist and Nick Heidfeld challenged for win in New York City and claimed another double podium finish at last weekend’s penultimate round of the all-electric FIA Formula E series.
Rosenqvist set an impressive pace in the free practice session but unfortunately the Swede crashed during Race 1’s qualifying session on Saturday and was forced to start 17th on the grid. German ace “Quick” Heidfeld set 6th-fastest time on the grid with a lap of 1:03.193. Both Heidfeld and Rosenqvist, who put in a brilliant recovery drive, were running in the top five. But Heidfeld was forced to retire after 36 laps with mechanical problems and Rosenqvist down the order when spun at Turn 2 and hit the wall.
On Sunday, Rosenqvist secured a front row start for Mahindra Racing Formula E Team after missing the pole position by a mere .036 seconds with his time of 1:02.322. Heidfeld took 5th spot on the grid with his 1:03.210. Rosenqvist passed Sam Bird for the lead at the start and led for ten laps before the Briton overtook him again. From there, Rosenqvist kept second place in control followed by his teammate Heidfeld, who moved up to third. After 49 laps, both drivers brought the double podium finish home.
Rosenqvist still lies 3rd in the Drivers’ Championship and Heidfeld sits 5th.
The FIA Formula E will come to an end at the Montreal Street Circuit in two weeks’ time.
