Indonesia´s racer clinches another podium finish with his Campos Racing car. Pic has finished 8th
Campos Racing driver Rio Haryanto earned important points towards the vice-championship title finished second today in race two at Russia´s Sochi Autodrom. His teammate, France´s Arthur Pic, took 8th place finish after his race was harmed by two incidents.
Pic took pole position on Sunday´s reverse grid. The Frenchman made a good race start but Richie Stanaway managed to pass it after a closely-fought battle during almost half a lap. Behind, Haryanto moved up to third and, during the opening lap, also overtook Pic for second. When the safety car was deployed on lap 2 to clear and clean the track after an accident, both Campos Racing drivers were running in podium places.
At the restart, Stanaway and Haryanto pulled away from the field, but Pic needed to focus on keeping at bay Raffaele Marciello, Stoffel Vandoorne and Pierre Gasly, they all covered by just one second. Although Pic did a great job, finally Marciello and Vandoorne passed him taking advantage from DRS-system. Marciello and Vandoorne managed to catch Haryanto but the Indonesian, repeatedly lowering his personal-best lap times late in the race, built a gap again and, mostly important, arrived up to the rear wing of Stanaway. Haryanto passed the Kiwi driver for the lead but Johnny Cecotto Jr. crashed at the same time and, as it brought another safety car period, Rio was forced to give back Stanaway his lead back. Anyway, second place was another rewarding podium finish for Haryanto. Pic finished 8th.
Now, Haryanto sits 3rd overall in the drivers´ championship and Campos Racing remains third in the teams´ classification.
The penultimate round of the series will take place at Sakhir International Circuit on 20-21 November.
