Pulcini, who also posted the benchmark fastest race laps, and Campos Racing completed another strong weekend of GP3 Series. The Italian driver now sits 3rd in the Drivers’ Championship only eight points behind the leader. Laaksoonen got back into the points

Leonardo Pulcini and Campos Racing delivered another brilliant performance during the Round 3 of the GP3 Series in Spielberg (Austria). Pulcini finished second on Saturday and then scored a third place finish on Sunday. Pulcini now lies 3rd in the Drivers’ Standings on 61 points, with a mere 8-point deficit to series leader Callum Ilott. In the same way, Campos Racing now occupies third place in the Teams’ Championship on 65 points.

During Friday’s free practice sessions, Simo Laaksonen spearheaded the Campos Racing charge posting the 2nd-fastest lap with a time of 1m20.150s. Further adrift, Pulcini and Mexican Diego Menchaca clocked times of 1m20.687s and 1m20.919s respectively, they all separated by minor margins. Later in qualifying, Pulcini qualified fourth with a lap time 1m19.344s. Laaksonen and Menchaca took 12th and 15th spots on the starting grid with their lap times of 1m19.606s and 1m19.807s respectively.

On Saturday, Pulcini moved up to third in the order at the start. After a safety car period, the race back into racing speed and the Campos Racing driver started battling with Alessio Lorandi. Finally, Pulcini moved past his fellow countryman for second on lap six and pulled away from the rest of the field. With a fastest lap of 1m20.850s, Pulcini took the checkered flag in second place behind Ilott. Laaksonen moved up to ninth on lap 15 and fended off his rivals until the flag. Menchaca ended up 14th.

Today, Pulcini has made a great start to gain four places and moved into podium contention from the very beginning. Without DRS, Pulcini managed to keep Ilott, Dorian Boccolacci and Lorandi at bay to step third onto the rostrum. Laaksonen and Menchaca took the checkered flag in 15th and 16th.

The GP3 Series will head to Great Britain for its Round 4 at Silverstone next weekend.
