The ultrafast new Azerbaijani layout plays host to round three of GP2 Series. The Pertamina Campos Racing pair of Indonesia´s Sean Gelael and New Zealand´s Mitch Evans is aiming for Baku to produce a strong result
After taking a one-month hiatus, the GP2 Series resumes next weekend for round three taking place at the Baku City Circuit in the frame of the European F1 Grand Prix. Baku City Circuit is the second longest track on the calendar behind Spa-Francorchamps and its extremely narrow uphill section at the old town wall is expected to be its trademark image.
Indonesian Sean Gelael and New Zealander Mitch Evans aim to fight for top places on Azerbaijani soil. After having stomach issues in Barcelona, Evans was at the top of his game on the streets of Monaco and claimed fourth and fifth finishes with Dallara GP2/11 and collected 18 points. On the other hand, Gelael completed his best weekend in Barcelona so far and stayed in contention to the frontrunners in Monte Carlo. Despite Baku is expected to be one of the most difficult and challenging circuits on the calendar, both drivers expect to make their way into the points.
Pirelli has chosen P Zero White medium and P Zero Red supersoft compounds for Baku.
Friday´s free practice and qualifying session will be held at 11.00 and 15.00 local times. Weekend´s feature race (with mandatory pit stop) is due to start on Saturday at 12.00. Sprint race is slated for Sunday at 14.00.
