Pertamina Campos Racing and their drivers converted qualifying performance into strong results in Monte Carlo. New Zealand´s Evans finished fourth and fifth and Gelael came 13th and retired on lap six when he was in points contention

Pertamina Campos Racing and its two drivers in the GP2 Series, Indonesia´s Sean Gelael and New Zealand´s Mitch Evans, showed strong pace in the streets of Monte Carlo, which played host to the second round of the series. Evans scored important points and Gelael proved he is making steady progress at the wheel of his Campos Racing Dallara GP2/11.

On Thursday, during free practice, Evans and Geleael finished 6th and 14th respectively with two laps of 1:20.825 and 1:21.954 and, most importantly, they both avoided any incident in an eventful session. As always in Monaco, qualifying was split into groups. In Group A, Evans clocked a time of 1:19.962, only 62 thousandths slower than pole position time. In Group B, Gelael took 8th spot with a lap time of 1:20.877.

Friday´s feature race saw Evans keeping rivals at bay at the start. With Evans fourth, Gelael was 14th. Indonesia´s racer pitted early in the race and, at the same time, Evans was under pressure from Oliver Rowland. Kiwi Evans put in an amazing defensive driving but he was given a 5-second penalty for leaving the track defending fourth place. Still, after pitting on lap 29, he took the checkered flag 5th. Gelael finished 13th.

On Saturday, and from 4th on the grid, Evans fended off the charge of his rivals. In the streets of Monaco, he finished the 30-lap sprint race fourth. His teammate Gelael was battling for the top-ten when crashed into the wall and retired.

The third venue will take place at the new Baku City Circuit, another urban track in the heart of Azerbaijan´s capital in three weeks´ time.
