The final race of the season brought a new podium for Campos Racing as Richard finished third in the WTCC Trophy
Campos Racing ended the year in the World Touring Car Championship with another podium as Kris Richard performed brilliantly at the wheel of his Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1. The Race of Qatar at the Losail International Circuit saw the first rostrum of Richard in the WTCC Trophy after making his World Touring Car Championship debut at Japan’s Twin Ring Motegi.
Richard made a positive debut by setting the sixth fastest time (2:03.547) among the privateers in the free practice session. On the eve of the season finale, the Swiss driver explained his goal was to become a challenger for Q2. It was all said and done. Richard made his way into Q2 with a lap time of 2:03.140 and then secured 8th place on the grid for the Main race and third on the reverse grid in the Opening race clocking a time of 2:02.735.
In Race 1, Richard made a bad start and dropped to 12th place and couldn’t improve his seventh place among the privateers behind Tom Coronel, with another Chevrolet RML. In Race 2, the driver of Campos Racing experienced a promising start as he moved up to seventh and, still on lap one, also passed Yvan Muller, driving a factory Volvo S60 WTCC, for sixth. From then on, Muller fended Muller off and brought sixth place home with a remarkable third place in the WTCC Trophy behind Rob Huff and Tom Chilton with two Citroën cars.
