The wet conditions dominated both races but Switzerland's driver finished 7th and 8th in the WTCC Trophy with his Campos Racing’s Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1
Campos Racing and Kris Richard, the new driver joining the Alzira-based squad for the WTCC Race of Japan at Twin Ring Motegi, made solid progress on a rain-soaked weekend. The organizers of the championship were forced to issue a revised schedule due to a typhoon hitting China and Japan, which delayed the arrival of the container shipment. As a result, qualifying sessions and both races took place on Sunday but rain still played a key role through the day.
Despite it was the very first time driving the Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1, Richard surprised with his quick adaptation from since the very first outing. Sunday’s qualifying session took place early in the morning and Richard set the ninth-fastest lap time in the WTCC Trophy. But the Swiss driver managed to gain several places in both races. The Opening race consisting of 11 laps saw Richard finishing 8th in class behind Tom Coronel. Coronel, driving another RML-built Chevrolet, lapped slower than Richard, which was a notable achievement for a debutant in the series. The Main race came to an early end due to heavy rain. After only four laps under green flag conditions, the race was red-flagged on lap ten.
The penultimate event of the season will take place at Macau’s urban track on 18.19 November.
