Campos Racing driver finished second in the Independents´ Trophy in race two with his Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1. Filippi came 6th and 7th
Campos Racing and its driver Hugo Valente have clinched another podium finish in the final European round of the World Touring Car Championship, taking place in Vila Real (Portugal). In spite of the Portuguese track didn´t suit Chevrolets RML Cruze TC1, due to its narrow chicanes, Valente delivered another stunning performance in qualifying setting a brilliant time of 1:59.333, the only privateer under the two-minute mark, and placing third on the grid behind two Citroën factory cars. John Filippi, with another Campos Racing Chevy, set a best lap time of 2:04.538 to start from ninth row.
An urban track is always a tricky one at the start and, in race 1, Valente was caught up in an accident with Ma Quing Hua and as a result he retired on the opening lap. Filippi avoided incidents and brought 6th place in the Independents´ Trophy home. With Valente´s car repaired on time for the second race, the Frenchman managed to fight for another podium finish and finally his efforts were rewarding taking second place on the rostrum among the privateers classification. Filippi finished seventh in afternoon´s race.
Now the WTCC takes an extended break before the Asian tour, starting next September in Japan.
