Argentinean Guerrieri claimed a fourth place finish in the WTCC Trophy during Sunday’s Main race, which was hosted on Portuguese soil
Campos Racing and Esteban Guerrieri completed the last stop on European soil before the World Touring Car Championship heads to America and Asia. Both Campos Racing and Guerrieri couldn’t achieve new podiums but they delivered another strong performance in the streets of Vila Real with their Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1.
In both free practice sessions, Guerrieri finished fifth and second on the time sheets, which was a good start to the weekend ahead of qualifying. There, Guerrieri posted a lap of 1:58.364 in Q2, which secured an 8th place on the grid for Main race and 3rd on the reverse-grid for Opening race.
Unfortunately, Guerrieri was forced to retire after one lap in the Opening race as he clashed with Mehdi Bennani’s Citroën Elysée WTCC after avoiding Néstor Girolami’s Volvo S60 WTCC at the start. In Race 2 (Main race), Guerrieri was able to finish 8th overall and fourth in the WTCC Trophy. It’s worth mentioning that the joker lap was introduced in Vila Real and Guerrieri served it on lap four.
After Portugal, Guerrieri currently sits fourth in the WTCC Trophy Drivers and Campos Racing ranks fourth in the WTCC Teams’ Trophy.
The WTCC will head to Argentina for Guerrieri’s home round at Circuito Termas de Río Hondo on 15-16 July.
