Argentinean Guerrieri stepped third onto the overall podium in race one and secured WTCC Trophy win in race 2 in his Campos Racing-entered Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1
Campos Racing and Esteban Guerrieri delivered a strong performance at Termas de Río Hondo rewarded with another WTCC Trophy win in the Main race and a third place overall in the Opening race. Guerrieri and Campos Racing closed the gap on the WTCC Trophy and WTCC Teams’ Trophy leaders.
Guerrieri made an excellent start to the weekend on Saturday morning as he took 2nd place overall in the free practice session posting a lap of 1:43.576, a mere three-tenths of a second off the pace. Guerrieri continued his impressive form later in qualifying and in his Campos Racing-run Chevrolet the local hero made it into the Q3. Campos Racing driver clocked a time of 1:43.704 to take fourth spot on the starting grid.
In the Opening race, Guerrieri lined up 7th on the reverse starting grid. Lap 2 saw Guerrieri moving through the field as he overtook the “Volvo army” to move up to fourth place. He managed to keep factory cars at bay and managed to defend the fourth place. Then, Tom Chilton was given a 5-second time penalty and Guerrieri inherited third place behind Yann Ehrlacher and Mehdi Bennani.
Later in the Main race, Guerrieri lost track position straight away at the start on the first lap. Despite he dropped to sixth, Argentina’s Esteban still recovered to finish fourth after passing his fellow countryman Néstor Girolami. Besides, he held down a solid triumph in the WTCC Trophy class.
Guerrieri still sits fourth in the WTCC Trophy drivers’ standings on 70 points, 17 points behind Bennani, Chilton and Rob Huff, who are tied on 87 points. Campos Racing lies third in the WTCC Teams’ Trophy.
The World Touring Car Championship will resume in China on 14-15 October.
