The Spanish team experienced a difficult weekend as its drivers faced set-up headaches throughout the weekend in qualifying despite the cars were competitive later in both races
Campos Racing contested Round 3 of the Euroformula F3 Open, which was held at Circuit Paul Ricard, and the defending champion looks to repeat success. However, the French venue at Paul Ricard was a demanding weekend despite Campos Racing and their four driver lineup of Thiago Vivacqua, Matheus Iorio, Petru Florescu and Simo Laaksonen made a positive start to the weekend.
Vivacqua topped Friday’s first free practice session but they all struggled to find the right set-up and balance for flying laps in qualifying runs. Despite that, Campos Racing made it into the top ten.
On Saturday, in Q1, Florescu took 7th spot on the starting grid and his teammate Vivacqua set 10th-fastest lap time. Both Laaksonen and Iorio took 12th and 13th on the starting grid. Starting from the back, and despite their cars were fast in race trim, is never easy to overtake rivals. Finally, Florescu came in 7th place and he was followed closely behind by his teammates Vivacqua and Iorio. Laaksonen finished 14th.
On Sunday, in Q2, Campos Racing drivers struggled to find consistency in qualifying but Laaksonen still secured 7th place. Vivacqua and Iorio started from row five and Iorio qualified 14th-fastest. In race 2, Iorio was forced to retire on lap one following a clash with a rival. Florescu and Vivacqua finished 6th and 7th respectively. Laaksonen also recovered to finish 10th.
The fourth round of the series will be held at Hungaroring on 1-2 July, before the summer break.
