The Circuito Internacional de Vila Real will host the last European race of the season. Campos Racing and Guerrieri will be looking to maintain its podium form
The World Touring Car Championship will head to Circuito Internacional de Vila Real for the fifth round of the season: the WTCC Race of Portugal. Campos Racing and Esteban Guerrieri will seek to continue its run of success with another strong result in Portugal. Vila Real, which is located in the eponymous town in northern Portugal, is considered to be the heart of motorsports in the country. The 4.785 kilometer circuit layout sweeps hills with a constant succession of climbs and descents and several drivers describe it as a cross between Nürburgring-Nordschleife and Macau.
At the moment, Argentinean Guerrieri sits fourth in the WTCC Trophy drivers’ standings on 47 points. Guerrieri has scored five podium finishes including an overall win in the season-opening race in Morocco in his Campos Racing-entered Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1. On the other hand, Campos Racing currently ranks fourth in the WTCC Teams’ Trophy.
The RML-built Chevy cars will be carrying 20 extra kilos as per results in Hungary and Germany.
Saturday is devoted to free practice and qualifying sessions, the latter scheduled at 15.30 (local time). On Sunday, the 11-lap opening race is due to start at 16.30 (local time) and the 13-lap main race will get underway at 17.45 (local time).
