The young pair of Palou and Norris sets to impress on world stage of Yas Marina Circuit, the final round for current Dallara GP2/11 cars
The FIA Formula 2 finale will take place next weekend with an interesting fact. Abu Dhabi’s final round will be the very last time for current Dallara GP2/11 cars as the new Dallara F2 2018 will make its debut next year. Besides, there is an all-new driver line-up at Campos Racing as two young aces will join the Spain-based team: Spaniard Álex Palou and Briton Lando Norris. Their goal is to finish the season on a high note as Campos Racing already stepped onto the podium at the Yas Marina Circuit in previous years.
Palou made an immediate impression in the FIA Formula 2 paddock in Jerez last month as he secured pole position for Sunday’s race on his debut. His haul of points in southern Spain is a promising start and brings justified optimism ahead of Abu Dhabi. It’s worth mentioning his maiden GP3 Series race win came in Abu Dhabi with a car entered by Adrián Campos’ team.
Newly crowned European Formula 3 champion Norris will make his debut in the main Formula 1 feeder series following his second place in the Macau Grand Prix. McLaren test driver will make his first appearance in the series but there are huge expectations surrounding his debut as he won five titles in the space of just three years. A massive achievement for such a young driver.
Track action will kick off on Friday with free practice and qualifying sessions taking place at 08.30 (CET) and 16.00 (CET). Saturday’s feature race is scheduled at 15.40 (CET) and Sunday’s sprint race at 11.10 (CET).
