Dutch driver finished 5th in race one and achieved another top-ten finish on Sunday. Palou, who qualified 5th, was excluded later due to new car´s weak spot problems. Tereschenko makes progress
The penultimate round of the GP3 Series in Sepang brought new points and the Alzira-based team achieved his goal of scoring its third straight point-paying finish. Spain´s Álex Palou, Netherlands´ Steijn Schothorst and Russia´s Konstantin Tereschenko stepped into the unknown at Sepang International Circuit and they all proved competitiveness and speed over a long weekend.
In free practice session, the trio of drivers discovered the most recent addition to the calendar and everything was set for Friday´s qualifying. Palou set a nice lap time of 1:50.371 to take 5th spot on the grid.
Unfortunately, he was later excluded as the height of his underfloor was below required. Palou ran over a kerb and it caused damage of the car´s underfloor. It wasn´t a driver the driver nor the team fault but a new Dallara-built GP3 car´s weak spot. So, Schothorst spearheaded Campos Racing charge with ninth on the grid.
On Saturday, Schothorst made steady progress throughout the race and having a nice battle with Jake Dennis finally brought 5th place home. Palou made up ten places in first six laps and finally finished 14th, three places ahead Tereschenko. Finally, in race two, Schothorst came 10th. Russian Tereschenko came 17th once again,. Palou was hit by Jake Hughes and couldn´t improve his 19th place.
Now the GP3 Series will head to the UAE for the final round of the season in November.
