Mahindra Racing, whose M3ELECTRO cars are run by Campos Racing, carried its podium momentum to Marrakesh ePrix as Rosenqvist stepped third onto the podium. Heidfeld came ninth
Mahindra Racing and its Campos Racing-run M3ELECTRO cars added a second podium to its 2016 tally in the FIA Formula E, the world´s first fully-electric series. Sweden´s Felix Rosenqvist and Germany´s Nick Heidfeld were undeniably two of the main protagonists of the event taking place in the streets of the Moroccan city.
In only his second start in the series, Rosenqvist managed to beat Sam Bird to pole position with a lap time of 1:21.509, which was 177 thousandths of a second quicker than Bird´s one. On the other hand, Heidfeld took 11th spot on the starting grid by clocking a time of 1:22.074.
Later in the race, Rosenqvist built a 4-second lead after pitting on lap 16. After the mandatory pits stops, the Swedish driver was still leading but he was using more energy than his pursuers and his pace dropped off in the closing stages. With six laps to go, Sebastien Buemi passed him for the lead and four laps later Bird also deprived him of second place. His third place was still an extraordinary rewarding result for Rosenqvist and Mahindra Racing. Heidfeld brought 9th place home in his M3ELECTRO car.
Buenos Aires will play host to round three on 18 February.
