Both cars dropped from contention after Heidfeld was hit by Prost and spun, then Rosenqvist crashed out of the race
Mahindra Racing Formula E Team, whose cars are run in collaboration with Campos Racing in the FIA Formula E, missed the chance to achieve another strong result in the Julius Baer Mexico City ePrix. With two laps to go, both Nick Heidfeld and Felix Rosenqvist were keeping the pace with the group of the front runners again proving Mahindra-entered cars competitiveness.
Saturday’s qualifying session at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez brought another strong result as both Mahindra Racing drivers delivered remarkable performances. “Quick” Heidfeld took 5th spot on the grid and Rosenqvist qualified 9th-fastest on the starting grid.
At the beginning, drivers enjoyed a positive start to the race as Heidfeld moved up to third on the first lap and, behind, Rosenqvist gained two places. Both drivers racing under Mahindra Racing-banner remained in podium contention and, on lap 26, they made their mandatory pit stop. After pitting, Heidfeld was running in fifth and Rosenqvist, close behind, was 8th. Unfortunately, with two laps to go, Nicolas Prost made contact with Heidfeld. The German driver was sent into a spin and Rosenqvist couldn’t avoid collision. As a result, Heidfeld still rejoined but came 12th at the end. On the other hand, Rosenqvist was forced to retire.
The Monte Carlo ePrix will take place on 13 May in the narrow streets of Monaco.
