The Indonesian racer delivered another faultless driving in Bahrain and has managed to achieve his maiden win in the series after overtaking Leal into the lead. Pic, starting from the back of the grid, came 10th.
Awesome race weekend for Campos Racing and its driver Rio Haryanto during GP2 Series season opener event at Bahrain International Circuit. After claiming 2nd place yesterday, Haryanto started seventh on the reverse grid and another podium finish wasn´t an easy task at all. After only the first lap, Haryanto was up to third, behind Julián Leal and Mitch Evans. Setting solid lap times, Indonesian´s driver overtook both cars being in front of him to move into the lead. From then on, he pulled away.
First Nobuharu Matsushita and later Stoffel Vandoorne tried to reduce the gap but the race leader perfectly controlled the race, holding his 3-second lead and managing tire wear. After 23 laps Haryanto emerged as race winner.
Arthur Pic, 21th on the starting grid after retiring yesterday, made some nice overtaking maneuvers to finish 10th, almost scoring his first points.
Now the GP2 Series heads to Spain, with round two taking place at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on 8-10 May.
