Despite difficult, humid conditions Palou delivered consistent performance on slick tires to secure second place after starting 10th on the grid. Schothorst also put it another brilliant drive and came 5th
Álex Palou drove his Campos Racing Dallara to his first podium of the season in the GP3 Series. The young Barcelonese ace, purring to perfection, streaked to victory in Sunday´s race at Silverstone.
On Saturday morning, Palou spearheaded Campos Racing drivers in qualifying session clocking a time of 1:49.053, which was less than a tenth quicker than his teammate Konstantin Tereschenko´s qualifying lap (1:49.138). On his side, Netherlands´ Steijn Schothorst set a best lap of 1:49.358.
In race one, which took place on Saturday afternoon, Palou gained several places at the end of the race and scored one point by ending up tenth. Besides, he secured 10th place on the grid for Sunday. Schothorst bring 14th home and Tereschenko, struggling with overheating issues, finished at the end of the pack.
On Sunday, despite the humid asphalt after rain-soaked night, the drivers started on slicks tires. Palou made an impressive first lap and took the lead after passing Sandy Stuvik. He led the field but at the end of the race a Virtual Safety Car put another car in his slipstream. Antoni Fuoco managed to pass him but Palou still nursed his car to secure second. Either Schothorst or Tereschenko also delivered amazing recovering drives. Schothorst finished 5th after starting 14th on the grid, and Tereschenko took 13th from the back of the field.
GP3 Series´ next event will take place at Hungaroring.
