Germany´s Heidfeld stepped onto the podium in his Campos Racing-run M3ELECTRO in Hong Kong. “Quick” Heidfeld secured 3rd place. Sweden´s Rosenqvist ran in podium contention before spinning but set the fastest lap
Mahindra Racing Formula E Team made a nice start to the season and both M3ELECTRO cars, which are managed by Campos Racing, showed strong pace with German Nick Heidfeld and Swedish Felix Rosenqvist at the wheel. The Hong Kong Central Harboufront Circuit in the city´s Central district saw an exciting season start in the all-electric FIA Formula E.
Following morning´s free practice session, Rosenqvist put forth a strong performance in qualifying to secure sixth spot on the starting grid, a mere two tenths slower than pole position time. His teammate Heidfeld set 11th-fastest time, another promising start position for the 45-lap race.
Heidfeld produced a tremendous performance at the start and moved up to 5th from 11th, ahead of his teammate Rosenqvist. Both Mahindra Racing-entered cars were charging for fourth place but unfortunately Sweden´s debutant spun and dropped to 18th. With 20 laps to go, the safety car was deployed and Heidfeld headed into the pit-lane for his car change. It resulted in an extremely positive movement for Mahindra and its driver as he moved into podium position. After 45 laps, he brought third place home behind Sebastien Buemi and Lucas di Grassi. Rosenqvist finished 15th and two laps down but he still managed to set the fastest lap.
The FIA Formula E will head to Morocco for the Marrakech ePrix on 12 November.
