The first event of its 2016 campaign came to an end at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for Pertamina Campos Racing
The GP2 Series kicked off at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for Pertamina Campos Racing and their two drivers, Indonesia´s Sean Gelael and New Zealand´s Mitch Evans. Gelael completed his best weekend so far and Evans, one of the title favorites, was hampered by digestive problems all weekend.
On Friday, in free practice, Evans set a best time of 1:30.720 in his Dallara, with Gelael clocking a time of 1:31.304. Later in qualifying they posted lap times of 1:29.478 (Evans) and 1:30.304 (Gelael). Saturday´s feature race had an incident-packed first lap but Evans and Gelael kept their cars in one piece. Evans pitted on lap ten and Gelael, by then, was in the top-ten before his mandatory pit stop. After 33 laps, Evans brought 12th place home in time-shortened race and Gelael finished 17th.
On Sunday, both Pertamina Campos Racing drivers gained several places on the first lap, with Gelael leading the charge for the team. Gelael, who was hit for Antonio Giovinazzi, still finished thirteenth ahead of his teammate Evans.
The second round will be held in the streets of Monte Carlo in two weeks´ time.
