Boschung and Visoiu finished at the back of the field in the rain marred race 1 and couldn’t improve enough to finish into the points-paying finish on Sunday

Campos Racing has experienced the toughest weekend of the FIA Formula 2 season. With a mix of heavy rain and sunny skies throughout the weekend, nothing went according to plan for Campos Racing at the “Temple of Speed”.

Ralph Boschung and Robert Visoiu completed 35 laps in the free practice session. Swiss Boschung clocked a best time of 1:31.793 and his Romanian teammate set a lap of 1:32.543. Later in qualifying, Campos Racing drivers couldn’t take advantage of slipstream and then a red flag in the dying minutes ruined their last flying lap. Boschung qualified 16th on the starting grid with a 1:31.878 and Visoiu took 19th spot with a lap of 1:32.267.

Saturday’s race 1 took place after nearly 2-hour weather delay due to heavy rain. Boschung made a good race start and gained several places to move into the top ten. But unfortunately he got a drive through penalty. Boschung pitted for his mandatory pit stop on lap 18 and Visoiu made his pit stop on lap 19. After a safety car period, Boschung ended up 15th ahead of Visoiu.

On Sunday, Boschung passed several drivers such as Gustav Malja to take the chequered flag in 13th place. Visoiu came 19th in race two.

The penultimate round of the FIA Formula 2 will take place at the Jerez circuit on 7-8 October.
