Haryanto and Pic approach the penultimate round of the season at Sakhir International Circuit
The GP2 Series head to Middle-East for the second-to-last round of the season. Unlike previous events, the series will stage this extra round – it was added after German round cancellation- in support of the world Endurance Championship in Bahrain. The Sakhir International Circuit was the opening round of the GP2 series back in April and hosted the final three-day collective test in preseason.
The French-Indonesian duo of Campos Racing, Arthur Pic and Rio Haryanto, already produced good results in Bahrain when the season kicked off. Indonesia´s Haryanto finished second on Saturday and then managed to claim maiden win in the series on Sunday. Pic also showed excellent pace qualifying 4th on the grid but his chances were ruined when he was caught in a pile-up on Saturday. But the Frenchman still managed to put in a storming recovery drive to finish tenth in sprint race. At the moment, Haryanto sits 3rd overall in the standings, with Campos Racing also third in the teams´ classification.
Anyway, nothing can be taken for granted because this will be the first time for GP2 racers sharing the track with the WEC cars and Michelin rubber, so it could make a dramatic impact on results.
Practice and Qualifying session will be held on Thursday this time at 11.30 and 14.20(local time). Feature race will take place on Friday at 15.30 and Sprint race on Saturday at 10.45.
