Campos Racing chose perfect pit strategy for Pic and Haryanto and they both were in podium contention. Pic finished 2nd and Haryanto, serving a stop-and-go penalty, came 15th
Arthur Pic has grabbed his first podium this season in the GP2 Series by finishing second at Spa-Francorchamps. It could have been an almost perfect Saturday for Campos Racing as Rio Haryanto was running in podium places as well but he was given a drive-through penalty.
Haryanto and Pic qualified 11th and 14th on the starting grid yesterday and during Saturday´s feature race they both managed to avoid any race incident on the opening lap. They have gained several places and after three laps Pic´s car was running 8th and Haryanto´s sister car 10th. But on lap 6 safety car was deployed as Daniel de Jong suffered a massive crash. At that moment, Pic and Haryanto were called in for their mandatory pit-stops by Campos Racing and it proved to be the right choice later. Shortly after the race was suspended as the accident resulted in a damaged barrier.
Once the race was back underway, Pic and Haryanto moved through the field with the Indonesian overtaking his Frenchman for seventh on lap 16. When other drivers headed into the pit-lane for mandatory pit-stops, Campos Racing drivers moved up to second (Haryanto) and third (Pic). Unfortunately Haryanto had stalled his car in the pit-lane before restart and was forced to serve a stop-and-go penalty, dropping to 15th. Pic inherited his second place, securing his first podium finish of the season at the end of the race.
Sunday´s Sprint race is due to start tomorrow at 10.35.
