Pertamina Campos Racing experienced a challenging round at the famous venue close to the Ardennes Mountains. Gelael and Evans couldn´t pick up points on a difficult weekend
Pertamina Campos Racing and its drivers in the GP2 Series, Indonesia´s Sean Gelael and New Zealand´s Mitch Evans experienced a tough weekend but at the same time it ensured that the Grand Prix of Belgium was a chance to improve for future events.
On Friday, Evans and Gelael set times of 2:00.119 and 2:00.703 and they completed 12 and 15 laps respectively. The qualifying session saw how both Pertamina Campos Racing drivers improved their previous lap times but they qualified 17th (Gelael) and 19th (Evans), not finding the expected pace.
Evans and Gelael used different pit strategies with the New Zealander starting on his hard tires and the Indonesian on the softer compound. Evans was running in the top-five before pitting but his final rush wasn´t enough to improve 16th with Gelael two spots behind in 18th. On Sunday, Evans and Gelael had another challenge ahead starting from the back of the grid. Evans finally could gain two positions to finish 14th and Gelael took the checkered flag in 18th, they both dealing with rapid tire wear.
The GP2 Series will head to Italy as the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza will host Round 9 next weekend.
