Schothorst rounded off his best weekend of the season so far by finishing 6th and 7th
Campos Racing had a positive weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, which hosted another round of the GP3 Series. Netherlands´ Steijn Schothorst scored valuable points for the drivers´ and teams´ standings and even when neither Spain´s Álex Palou nor Russia´s Konstantin Tereschenko grabbed points the competitiveness delivered throughout the sixth weekend of the season took another step forward.
Schothorst made a positive start to the weekend by finishing fourth on Friday, during the single free practice session, with a lap time of 2:06.691. On the other hand, Palou and Tereschenko clocked times of 2:07.538 and 2:10.845. On the day following, Palou spearheaded the Campos Racing armada by securing a top-ten result in qualifying with his lap of 2:05.880. Schothorst (2:06.201) and Tereschenko (2:06.769) also showed a competitive pace ahead of both races.
In race 1, Schothorst put one of the most remarkable recovery drives of the season in and his faultless performance in an incident-packed race was good enough for 6th. Palou ran in sixth after making a brilliant race start and avoiding a car pile-up at La Source but finally finished 14th, with Tereschenko 16th. On Sunday, Schothorst claimed a seventh-place finish for Campos Racing banner with Palou moving up to 11th. Unfortunately, Tereschenko went off on lap four. Despite tire degradation had a great influence at Spa-Francorchamps, Campos Racing drivers managed to avoid major problems on this issue.
The Autodromo Nazionale di Monza will host another GP3 Series round next weekend.
